Peace, Love, and Reading This Summer at the Berryville Public Library

Today marks the first day of summer reading sign-ups, and we are very excited to introduce our theme, Peace, Love, and Reading.

After 3 years of reading challenges to raise money for the new library, we’re taking a step back from matching hours, but we still have reading fun for everyone. This year, we’re all about games, and most of you will be able to choose your own game adventure for the summer!

Teens will be completing tournament brackets (and selecting how big of a bracket they want to fill out over the course of the summer), while adults will get to pick between the tournament brackets or genre-themed bingo. We’re encouraging both age groups to read 23 hours for 2023!

Younger kids will also be tracking their reading, via games of chase for the ones under 6 and via bingo cards for kids 6 to 12. We’ll also have special family and individual games of bingo that folks can participate in and win prizes for completing. They range from tracking acts of kindness to leaning in really hard on our 60s theme.

There will be programming throughout the summer, including performers at the Berryville High School Performing Arts Center on Monday afternoons and our hands-on Camp Create at the library on Wednesday afternoons.

The Friends are also planning a very groovy, fun Peace, Love, and a New Library Festival for July 8 from 11 am to 2 pm. In conjunction with the annual Peace and Love event that Ringo Starr commemorates his birthday, we’ll have games, food, a cakewalk, a silent auction, and more at the City Pool Park, across the street from the site of the new library. Tickets are $5 for adults, and $3 for kids. All proceeds will go to the building fund.

So, mark your calendars and track your reading this summer! You can learn more about the summer program here and stop by the library to sign up.
