Summer Reading 2024 Update

Thanks so much to everyone who participated in our summer reading program! We had 299 readers of all ages who recorded 10,725 hours in 8 weeks. In addition to the reading challenge, we hosted a range of programs including a hot air balloon demonstration.

We appreciate all of you who sign up, report hours and activities, and attend programs each summer, but we also appreciate all our patrons who stop in, whether it’s to fax some paperwork, check out a book, or use the computers, throughout the year.

Recently, someone called the library as part of their research for a school paper and asked if signing up for a card helps us get more tax money. On the subject of tax dollars, no, signing up for a card doesn’t bring in more money for us simply because our county dollars come from a local tax millage.

However, I still encouraged the person in question to come in and get a card. Any usage of the library does help us because we keep stats of everything from our daily door count to program attendance to circulation totals to new cards issued. Those numbers are part of our monthly and annual reports, and they are very helpful for not only demonstrating the services we provide to the community but also helping us see what services our patrons want and need. Even asking us reference questions is another stat we track. (We as a staff can get super hyped up about reference questions. The Olympics have nothing on the thrill of victory and agony of defeat that comes with researching obscure reference questions. 🙂 )

So, don’t be a stranger the rest of the year! Stop by to check out some books and DVDs, use the computers, and sign up for a card.
