Make Time to Play: October

This year, we’re celebrating play at the library! Everyone knows how beneficial play is for kids, but did you know that it is equally important for adults? It can be a wonderful stress reliever, boosts creativity, alleviates boredom, and may even lower your blood pressure. To that end, every month in 2024, we’re highlighting a different form of play. Each month we’ll have a bingo-style fun card. If you complete all the activities for a blackout on your card, you’ll receive a special prize. The more of the 12 monthly fun cards you complete this year, the better chance you have to win the grand prize and be crowned our annual play champion!

We’re celebrating all things Lego for October! Lego play can strengthen fine motor skills, creativity, problem solving, and spatial awareness skills.

Did you know the Lego Company was formed in the 1930s by a Danish carpenter? He started specializing in toy manufacturing within a couple of years of forming the company but didn’t patent the famous Lego bricks until the 1950s. Lego bricks built today still fit the original bricks.

Did you know the name Lego comes from a combination of the Danish words “Leg Godt,” which means “play well”?

Did you know the Lego Company is one of the world’s biggest tire manufacturers? Somebody’s gotta make all those tires for Lego vehicles!

Did you know that there are enough Lego bricks in the world for each person to have over 80?

Did you know we love Lego at the Berryville Library so much that we host a bimonthly Lego club and also have tubs of Lego toys on hand for you to play with at any time?

Here’s our play card for October.

Are you a Lego fan? What’s your favorite Lego creation? Tell us in the comments!
