Exploring Our Digital Research Tools: February

We have a lot of fantastic digital resources, many of them courtesy of the Arkansas State Library. Because we’re a library in Arkansas, we have access to their Traveler Database. For this entire year, every month, we’re going to look at the different features available on these databases. For this month, we’re going to focus on the ebook resources.

To get to the ebooks, just follow the directions in the first post. Once in the Arkansas Traveler database, go to Books and eBooks.

We covered the World Book Ebooks collection briefly in January, but we’re going to explore it more today.

It offers informative, kid-friendly books on a range of topics.

Beyond the animal, craft, and math books highlighted above, it also has biographies, as well as books on everything from history to nature to future careers.

It’s a great resource for school projects (that you can access 24/7 as long as you’re in the state of Arkansas) but also just for learning for fun.

Proquest’s Ebook Central, meanwhile, is geared toward adult readers. It features a lot of different topics.

If you want in-depth, scholarly ebooks on everything from engineering to agriculture to history, here’s where you need to be. While browsing the history books, I saw everything from a bio of Peter the Great to books on Civil War battles. If you browse for Arkansas-themed resources, there are maps, travel guides, and histories. Even true crime books, like Remembering Ella!

It also includes a selection of fiction titles.

And of course if you want other fiction e-reads, please be sure to check out our Libby and Hoopla collections!

What’s your favorite digital resource the library offers? Do you use the Traveler databases? Which of these databases are you most excited to try?
