What’s New at the Berryville Library

We’ve been busy at the library lately and want to make sure that you’re up-to-date on all that’s new!

First things first, summer reading sign-ups will be in full swing next week, starting on May 27. No matter your age, be sure to sign up for all the summer reading fun! This year’s theme is “Color Our World.” Programs start June 2 and will include our weekly traditional stage performers and activities, as well as a new Stay and Make Meetup that will let participants do hands-on needle-felting and painting and experience our second book tasting of the year. For inquiring minds, we are conducting a grand experiment.  We want to know if you really can judge a book by the color of its cover, but we need data collectors. You can help by using this sheet to record your observations and be part of our investigative team!

Tuesday, May 27, also marks when tickets for the Friends’ fundraiser Eats, Beats, and Sweets go on sale. The event will be Saturday, June 21, from 4 to 8 pm, at the Community Center and will feature live music and delicious food. All proceeds raised go to the Friends and help fund their support of current library programs and needs as well as the new building project.. At this stage, we are raising money to furnish the new building. Equity Bank and Bank of 1889 are our Marquee Sponsors for this event, and Rancho Latino and Taqueria El Guerito are providing carnitas, rice, beans, and pico de gallo.

Finally, the Berryville Library now has an online form for you to submit any time you want personalized recommendations for what to read next. It’s called What Should I Read Next, and you can locate it on our website berryvillelibrary.org, under the Programs and Services tab. You can also access it from this blog by going to Readers’ and Viewers’ Advisory Resources to the left. The link is near the top of that page.

Readers’ advisory is the term librarians use for the process of finding readalikes for someone, and it is one of my favorite things to do! So, please reach out!

Your list is personalized to what you like and dislike, and once you’ve gone through the list, I can generate another one for you, based on what you enjoyed. The turnaround time is approximately 1 week, and this service is available year-round, not just during the summer.

If you don’t have time to ask for one, I also post an edited form of ones I’ve completed on the blog under Readers’ and Viewers’ Advisory Resources. It strips out all identifying information, adds some visual pizzazz, and is a great way for you to browse for suggestions by genre.

Here are some recent ones I’ve completed:

Stop by the library to sign up for summer reading; buy your tickets for Eats, Beats, and Sweets; and find out what you should read next!
