Every month, we’re profiling new-ish releases that are getting critical and commercial buzz. For July, we’re looking at the book menus used for yesterday’s book tasting, and filling in the gaps of what hasn’t already been covered on the blog.

Mark Your Calendars–Next Book Tasting on June 30!

The book tasting we hosted back in February, pictured above, was a big hit. We had 11 people attend our first adult book tasting at the library (we had previously hosted one for teens several years ago), and since it was so popular, we are bringing it back for the summer!

Last week, we hosted the library’s first-ever book tasting for adults, and it was a smashing success. We wanted to highlight it here in case you want to replicate it on your own or just vicariously experience ours.

Though our building remains closed to the public, we’re still providing items to patrons–and we’re also still getting new items (though the timing of their arrivals is still sometimes disrupted by the pandemic)! I love when new items come into the library–I like to scope out what is new and, um, am not above snatching something that looks especially interesting if nobody else has a hold on it. And I know a lot of our patrons love to browse our new shelf. Of course, that’s not possible right now since patrons can’t come in, so I thought the next best thing would be to bring the new shelves to you–digitally. 🙂
Sneak Peek at 2020

For 2020, we’ll still be bringing you weekly book, movie, and TV reviews but adding some fun new features as well.
Old Favorites: Horror

Now that we’re well into October, it’s that time of year where reading or watching something terrifying just seems . . . right.
I’m not necessarily an avid horror reader or watcher ordinarily, though I do like being scared. My taste veers more toward psychological horror and the horror classics, but I am certainly willing to try other sub-genres.
Some of my favorites?
Ideas for 2019?

Happy New Year, everybody!
This year, we’ll be continuing our sneak peeks at newer book releases, celebrations of notable events in literary history, and book, television show, and movie reviews.
And to that end, I was wondering what you wanted me to review.
Exploring our Great Berryville Read Finalists

While we wait to learn the results for both the Great American Read and Great Berryville Read, I thought it would be interesting to compare notes with the released list of the country’s favorite books with the books that made our Top 10.

Great Berryville Read Final Bracket

It’s The Final Countdown! (Warning: that video perhaps features more 80s hair than you need on a Monday morning. Or perhaps it’s exactly as much 80s hair as you need on a Monday morning. I don’t judge!)
But I do digress! For the past several weeks, we’ve been encouraging people to submit their brackets to help us determine Berryville’s favorite book. We have been keeping track of everyone’s votes, and now we’re going to unveil the final bracket. This features the winners of each round, as well as the next 3 highest-scoring books in the voting.
Since we were doing bracket votes, and we didn’t have the same number of participants every week, we also factored in which books received the highest average number of votes. This required some mathematical calculations, which Julie and Jen were kind enough to provide. (No math-impaired library bloggers were hurt in the making of these brackets.)
Great Berryville Read!

We’ve already talked about the Great American Read on the blog, but we’re also hosting the Great Berryville Read throughout the year! So, while America is choosing its favorite book, we’ll be choosing Berryville’s favorite book. Read more to learn about the special additional programs we’ll be hosting.
