All I Want for Christmas is a Bake Sale!

A big thank you to everyone who participated in our Easy as Pie Thanksgiving Pie Pickup Sale last week! Our volunteer bakers made over 50 pies–including enough for extras for us to sell in the library–and we had raised over $1,100 before the sale even started. Thanks so much to our bakers and buyers, as well as our volunteers who helped call bakers, broker pie sales, assemble boxes, design flyers, and more.

But wait there’s more . . . baked goods! We have our annual Christmas bake sale coming up on the 2nd Friday of December, like always. Last month, pies were the stars of the show. This month, it’s a little bit of everything taking center stage.

Happy Holidays from the Berryville Public Library!

Hope all of our patrons and blog readers have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

The library is closed today and tomorrow for Christmas. We’re also closing early next Tuesday, December 31, at 4:30 pm, and closing all of Wednesday, January 1 to welcome in 2025.

However, just because the library is closed doesn’t mean you can’t still use our resources!

Make Time to Play: December

This year, we’re celebrating play at the library! Everyone knows how beneficial play is for kids, but did you know that it is equally important for adults? It can be a wonderful stress reliever, boosts creativity, alleviates boredom, and may even lower your blood pressure. To that end, every month in 2024, we’re highlighting a different form of play. Each month we’ll have a bingo-style fun card. If you complete all the activities for a blackout on your card, you’ll receive a special prize. The more of the 12 monthly fun cards you complete this year, the better chance you have to win the grand prize and be crowned our annual play champion!

Cookbook Corner: Baking

In honor of our Books, Spice, and Everything Nice theme (and spice club!), we’ll be doing a monthly round-up of our cookbooks. We have a really nice and extensive collection, but it’s easy to get lost in the sheer number of them. Hopefully these posts help! In honor of December’s spice cinnamon, we’ll be focusing on cookbooks that cover everything you want to know about baking, including baking for the holidays.

Book Buzz: 19th Century Maine, Christmas Miracles, and the Joys of Being Crafty

Every month, we’re profiling new-ish releases that are getting critical and commercial buzz. For December, we’re looking at a re-released historical novel about the lives of 3 women in Maine in the 1800s, the latest book in a popular holiday series, and a celebration of folks who work with their hands.

Old Favorites: A Christmas Carol

We’re focusing on newer books, movies, and television shows for 2018, but that doesn’t mean we’re entirely ignoring old favorites! After all, what’s that saying–what’s old may just become new again (or something like that)?

Is it really Christmas until you’ve either read or watched or listened to A Christmas Carol? Tiny Tim and Scrooge have been a holiday tradition for over 175 years. In fact, December 19 marks the anniversary of its publication in 1843. In that first year, it had sold out by Christmas Eve, and it remains a perennial favorite even now.

And here at the library, we’ve got a variety of traditional and contemporary ways for you to enjoy A Christmas Carol.

Christmas tree books

Every week, I tell you all about what I am reading and watching, but this week, it’s your turn to tell me what you’re reading and watching!

Tis the time of year to be jolly and–hopefully–read some books and give and receive books as gifts (not that I’m hinting).
